Healthy Eating Policy

On the 9th of January 2017 we are launching our Healthy Eating Policy. This policy has still to be ratified by the Board of Management so your opinions on the policy are still very welcome.

Here is a link to the document:

Healthy Eating Policy 2017

The document:

  • Outlines a healthy lunch.
  • Lists items not allowed in school
  • Outlines that a treat is now only allowed on Fridays.

Kind regards

Healthy Eating/Living Survey

Healthy Eating

After Christmas we hope to focus on our healthy eating policy and procedures. In light of this, I am setting up a Healthy Eating Group, consisting of parents and teachers, to look at this area. We hope to meet a couple of times before January and plan some events to help the children. I have already wrangled together some “volunteers”, if you would like to join this group please contact me. An online survey is now available

I encourage you to complete this survey, as your views will shape the direction of our actions.

Our School reports will arrive on the Friday 17th of June.

School Closures June 2016

Due to the Bank Holiday, our school’s discretionary days and training for teachers on the new Language Curriculum, we will be closed for one day this week and two next week. The closures are as follows:

Closed

Fri 3rd-Discretionary Day

Mon 6th-Bank Holiday

Tue 7th-Training Day for the New Language Curriculum

The calendar for 2016/2017 will be sent home this week.

Senior Hurling Team

Congratulations to our school’s senior hurling team who played two games this week.

In the first we beat Abbeyfeale boys school comfortably. Unfortunately, we lost narrowly to Glantine, by 2 points. This is a huge achievement considering we only had one player from 6th class on the starting team.

Most importantly, every single player who togged out had a chance to play. Well done to all involved, you should be extremely proud of your efforts. We have one more game left against Shanagolden next week.

New Furniture

Term three will start with new additions to our school. Today, 45 tables and 90 chairs arrived! A huge thank you to John Folan who helped with the big move.  Our four classrooms now have new furniture. Similarly,  new carpet was laid in the Junior/Senior and First/Second class classrooms earlier in the year.

INTO Congress

As people maybe aware, the INTO congress was on this week. I attended as a delegate from the Abbeyfeale branch. It was as always interesting, heated and informative.

Thankfully, it would appear, the attack on rural schools is over for now. However, the main issue for us as a school was the implementation of the new language curriculum. This is due to be rolled out in Juniors next September 2016. Based on discussions, I now think that this will be pushed back to 2017 or 2018, as we have not been provided whole school training yet.
Similarly, as always, class sizes and funding were discussed. Hopefully we will see improvements in the next 12 months.
Regards,

Bernard
